THE HR PRO BONO CORPS: INVESTING IN YOUR SUCCESS

The Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation recognizes the tremendous need to bring human capital management expertise to the nonprofit sector.

We believe that nonprofits function at their very best when they can focus on critical workforce priorities like employee engagement, training, daily productivity, and retention. After all, your ability to effectively and successfully deliver services is dependent on the people that drive your mission.

That’s why we created the HR Pro Bono Corps. Through this program we recruit HR professionals and match them with nonprofits in need of strategic talent management expertise. Our Corps members volunteer their time to help recipient organizations address specific HR-related challenges through short term coaching sessions or project-based consulting engagements.

The HR Pro Bono Corps program is staffed and managed by the Foundation. Our team works closely with our participating nonprofits to ensure a high degree of satisfaction and success. We invest the time to learn about your organization, identify the particular areas where you might need HR assistance and scope specific projects. Once we have defined your organization’s priority human capital needs, the next step is finding the right match with a volunteering HR practitioner who has the time and skills to make a difference. “We were starting from scratch with this type of initiative, so every little bit the volunteers offered was a tremendous help,” said Hale Kipa’s Brian Barnhart. “We got expert advice from really engaged, supportive volunteers; every nonprofit should take advantage of this opportunity if they are able.”

The nonprofit and the need: Hale Kipa, a social services agency for at-risk youth, needed help developing an online learning module to teach science and technology skills.

The match and the impact: Matched with volunteers from a a global consulting firm and Staples, the team designed an online module that will benefit 1,000 youth this year. What’s more, during the consultation, Hale Kipa staffers obtained the training they need to maintain the learning module and develop similar programs in the future.

“As busy as we all are at our ‘regular work’ every day, it can be tough to take on new assignments that go above and beyond,” Stevens said. “If you’re going to do it, there has to be some return. For me, this opportunity combined multiple returns, including the chance to help an organization that’s doing important work for its community and our society.”

The nonprofit and the need: Stand for Children needed coaching on developing a learning and development strategy to last the next two to three years.

The match and the impact: Stand was matched with a volunteer from University of Miami’s professional development and training office, and after a couple of coaching sessions, Stand had a needs assessment and guidance on the allocation of resources for the strategy.
