Giving Hope to Syrians
Amer AlKawareet, a Software Engineer located in Cornerstone’s London office, was recently recognized as Cornerstar of the Quarter for his work with the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation.
Through the Foundation’s Cornerstone Corps, a group of dedicated employee volunteers, he generously donated countless hours to help maintain the Arabic version of the DisasterReady.org learning portal. He also translated content into Arabic to support over 9,000 humanitarian aid workers inside Syria and the MENA region who are taking free training through the Investing in Syria Humanitarian Action (ISHA) Online Learning Program.
It is incredibly important for humanitarians responding to the Syrian crisis to have access to online resources, especially on a platform that supports learning in their own language. Thanks to Amer’s dedication, this is now possible.
We recently congratulated Amer on being named Cornerstar of the Quarter, and had a chance to ask him about his volunteer experience:
I heard about the Cornerstone Corps from Emmanuelle Lacroix, the Partnership Development Manager for the Foundation. I really wanted to do anything I could to support.
I help with translations of emails, guides, etc. I try to do the translations either during my lunch break or after work and on the weekends for urgent matters.
Since I started volunteering with the Foundation, I see Cornerstone differently. It’s not just a job. It reminds me that we are human beings. We can help others by providing the thing that they will use to rebuild their countries: education.
I’m Syrian and I saw war in my eyes before leaving the country. The one thing Syrian people need most now is hope, and knowing that someone outside Syria is thinking about them will give them hope.
I really want to say thank you to everyone involved with the Foundation, and I want to say your hard work really matters and it’s making a big change in people lives.
I also want to invite all Cornerstars that are not yet volunteering with the Foundation to try and give as much as they can to help this great cause.
Thanks to Amer we can support thousands of humanitarians, volunteers, and field staff in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey who are learning every day to better assist, protect, and rebuild communities impacted by conflict.
